Jeongwook Heo
Age : 21
Nationality : Republic of Korea (South Korea)
Studies : International Business & Management
Neighborhood : Van Sijsenstraat
‘Till last year, I lived in international student house at Winschoterdiep. Since students could not stay in their room that Housing office offered more than one year, I had to move to other room. Unfortunately I had no much time due to a flight ticket to Korea. The day before going to the airport, I visited this house. I was satisfied with conditions and a location, a payment of it. So, I closed my rental contract.’
‘The thing that I like most about this room is this split level structure (1). At the first time, I put my bed upstairs but now I just put all stuffs on there as a shelf. I also like my shared balcony (2). There are clotheslines that I can hang out my washing to dry.’
‘Sometimes I feel for reading some Korean books, but it’s not easy to find it here. So when I first came here, I brought some of it (3). And my parents send 1 or 2 books every time they’re sending me a package of other stuffs such as clothes or foods from my home country. Meanwhile, I am a big fan of wine, and I was very surprised at really cheap wine price here. So I’m enjoying wine from near supermarkets often. If I feel homesick from time to time, Korean books and wine can be my temporary remedy.
‘As a college student, there are so many things to take care of at the same time. So I’ve been training myself to make notes for every little important thing (4). Dutch and European maps are for making marks where I’ve been. I’m still trying to travel all around Europe as much as I can.’
‘My father is working in a car trading business with Dutch companies, so he did a big role for me to decide to come and study in the Netherlands. These posters (5) are souvenirs when I visited The Hannover Auto Show with my father.’
‘Yes, it’s a stroller (6). Of course, it’s not for me. My cousin was born about a few months ago in South Korea. My father bought it from here, in the Netherlands, for a gift. Because strollers made in the Netherlands are famous for their high quality in South Korea. And it’s much cheaper buying in here than in South Korea. So I’m just keeping it for a few weeks.’
